Give an agent access to a folder on your Mac

Updated October 22, 2026

"This Mac" lends a folder on your Mac to a cloud agent: it reads the files freely and asks before it changes any of them.

Use this when you want an agent to work with local files — code, documents, or data — without uploading them first. The agent works on the live folder, so it always sees your latest files.

  1. In the chat composer, click the folder chip and choose "This Mac".
  2. Pick the folder you want to lend.
  3. When the agent wants to change a file, the Mac app asks you first. Deny it, or allow the change.
  4. When you are done, choose Remove next to it in Settings › This Mac › Live folders.

Where: Mac app › composer folder chip (labelled "Add folder").

Good to know: to upload a copy instead, see Copy a folder on your Mac to the cloud.
