Continue a Mac chat in the cloud

A local Claude Code or Codex chat continues in the cloud with the same agent and the model it was actually using; if that can't be done safely, it keeps running on your Mac.

Updated October 28, 2026

A chat running on your Mac can continue in the cloud. With the same agent, it keeps the model and thinking level it was actually using.

  1. In a local chat, choose More › Continue.
  2. Confirm. The chat continues in the cloud and the run on your Mac stops.

Which model the cloud uses:

  • Same agent. A model or thinking level you picked yourself is kept. If the chat was left on Default model, the cloud uses the model the chat was actually running, and the thinking level if one was recorded, instead of the cloud's own default. If no thinking level was recorded, none is guessed.
  • Different agent. If you choose to continue with the other agent (Claude Code instead of Codex, or the reverse), it starts with that agent's cloud defaults. The confirmation says so.

When it doesn't move: nothing is moved or stopped, and the chat keeps running on your Mac, if:

  • The chat's current model can't be confirmed. Choose a model for the chat, then try again.
  • The conversation is too large to continue with the same agent. Keep working on this Mac.

Stop stays available after either message, so you can still stop the local run.

Where: Mac app › a local chat › More › Continue.

Good to know: the same rules apply when the Mac app moves an unfinished chat to the cloud on its own, for example when your Mac goes to sleep. Related: The AgentSky Mac app, Run agents locally on your Mac.
