Set a goal for an ongoing chat

Updated October 21, 2026

Type /goal in the composer, write your objective, and send — the agent works toward it across multiple sessions.

A goal gives the agent a persistent objective. It works, pauses, and resumes on a schedule without you having to restart it each time. You can set a goal with a deadline, an iteration limit, or leave it open-ended.

  1. In a chat, type /goal in the composer.
  2. Write your objective (for example, "Keep the README updated whenever I push a commit").
  3. Send. The agent confirms the goal and sets its first wake-up.

Where: Web and Mac: /goal in the chat composer. API: POST /api/v1/sessions/{id}/goal.

Good to know: goals can ask you questions via the question-card system, and you answer inline in the chat. You can stop a goal at any time by replying to the chat. Related: What are automations?, Schedule a one-time task, View background tasks.
