The Story tab beside a chat lists everything that happened in its task, oldest first, and who did each thing.
- Open a cloud chat and open the side panel. Choose Story.
- Read the task day by day. Each line names who did it (you, a teammate, or an agent) and what they did: messages, helper agents it started, questions and answers, mentions and assignments, files and results that changed, apps the agents used (such as Gmail, with the call and its result), and meetings it recorded.
- Use Messages, People or Work to narrow the list, and Everything to see it all again. The top line says how many people and agent sessions took part and what the task has cost so far.
- To bring an email into the task, click Attach email thread, search your Gmail (for example
from:supplier invoice) and click Attach on a thread. The thread is kept in the task's shared files as text, so the agents can read it, and the story shows that you attached it. Gmail is only read; nothing is sent. If you have no Gmail connected, a teammate's Gmail shared with the workspace is used, or you are asked to connect yours.
Where: Web and Mac, in the side panel of a cloud chat that has a task you can read.
For agents: sky task story <task> prints the story (--by-session when you have a helper's or handoff's id, --json for the full entries). MCP tool: read_task_story. API: GET /v1/tasks/{id}/story. To attach email: sky task find-email <task> [query] and sky task attach-email <task> <thread>, MCP find_task_email_threads and attach_email_thread, API GET/POST /v1/tasks/{id}/email-threads.
Good to know: the story only shows what you can already open. In a session you can only view, you see its messages and nothing else. Nothing is added to the task by reading it. Related: View background tasks, See who is here, assign a chat and mention a teammate, What are artifacts?.
