# Continue a cloud chat on your Mac, and bring it back

> A cloud Claude Code or Codex chat can move onto your Mac and keep going as a local chat with the same agent, from the web or the Mac app. Nothing is stranded if no Mac picks it up, and you can bring it back to the cloud.

**A Claude Code or Codex chat in the cloud can move onto your Mac and carry on as a local chat with the same agent. You can bring it back at any time.**

1. In the Mac app, open the chat's menu and choose Continue in…. Under where it runs, choose On this Mac, then confirm. A notice says the chat is moving, and the chat opens as a local chat when it finishes.
2. On the web, open the chat and choose ··· › Continue on your Mac. When the chat says it is ready, choose Open in AgentSky for Mac, then Continue on this Mac.

**Until a Mac takes it,** the chat stays in the cloud. Send a message there and the move is cancelled, so a chat is never stuck waiting for a Mac.

**Once a Mac takes it,** the cloud chat stops taking messages and says where it continues.

**To bring it back,** choose Bring back to the cloud in the chat, on the web or the Mac. It picks up from where the cloud left it. Anything done on the Mac since then stays there, and the Mac's copy stops taking messages. Where: Web: chat header ··· menu. Mac: the chat's Continue in… sheet. Agents can use `sky session continue-here`, `sky session return-to-cloud`, and the MCP tools `continue_on_computer` and `return_to_cloud`.

Good to know: the agent must be installed on this Mac, and On this Mac isn't offered for other agents. Only the person who started a chat can move it or bring it back. If the move fails, the chat stays in the cloud and you can try again.
