Install and manage Claude Code plugins with the API, MCP or sky

Install a Claude Code plugin into a workspace, switch it on or off, run it in its own scoped chat, add marketplaces and set a policy through the API, MCP or sky.

Updated November 3, 2026

Install a Claude Code plugin into your workspace, switch it on or off, run it on its own, and control which plugins teammates can use.

In the app, these are skill packs in Plugins › Skills; see What are skills?. This page covers the same plugins from code.

Manage installed plugins

ActionAPIsky
InstallPOST /v1/plugins with { "source": "github:owner/repo[/path][@ref]" }sky plugins install <source> (--mcp-token passes a token for one of its remote MCP servers)
Switch on or offPATCH /v1/plugins/{name} with { "enabled": true } or falsesky plugins enable <name> / sky plugins disable <name>
RemoveDELETE /v1/plugins/{name}sky plugins rm <name>

Installing brings in text only and runs no plugin code. Parts AgentSky can't use are listed as skipped. A plugin that is switched off stops its skills attaching to new chats. When you remove a plugin, a skill a chat still holds is switched off rather than deleted.

Run a plugin on its own

POST /v1/plugins/{name}/sessions with { "message": "…", "agent": "…", "title": "…" } (only message is required), or sky plugins run <name> <message>, starts a session with only that plugin's skills and remote MCP servers. Connected apps are limited to the ones the plugin declared. A switched-off plugin refuses to start one.

Marketplaces

AgentSky reads marketplaces in Claude Code's .claude-plugin/marketplace.json format.

  • GET /v1/plugins/marketplaces or sky plugins market list lists every plugin they offer, with its policy and whether it is installed.
  • POST and DELETE on the same address, or sky plugins market add|rm <source>, add and remove one. Only a workspace owner or admin can. Installed plugins stay when a marketplace is removed.

Policy

A workspace owner or admin can set a policy with PUT /v1/plugins/{name}/policy or sky plugins policy <name> <policy>:

  • recommended marks the plugin as recommended.
  • default installs it for the workspace now.
  • blocked refuses adding it.

With sky, none clears the policy.

MCP tools

The Use AgentSky as an MCP server has matching tools: install_plugin, update_plugin, uninstall_plugin, start_plugin_session, set_plugin_policy, list_plugin_marketplaces, add_plugin_marketplace and remove_plugin_marketplace.

Where: API, MCP and the sky CLI. Related: Use the sky CLI, Use the AgentSky API, What are connectors?.
