# View background tasks

**When an agent delegates work to sub-agents, a "N tasks" entry appears above the composer — click it to see the Background tasks panel.**

Agents can split large tasks into smaller ones and hand them off to other agents running in parallel. These are background tasks. The main chat stays active while background tasks run.

Click the "N tasks" entry above the composer to open the Background tasks panel. Each row shows the task's current status. Finished tasks are grouped and collapsed by default.

Where: Web and Mac: above the composer whenever background tasks are running.

Good to know: background tasks are part of the same chat — their results feed back into the main conversation. You cannot manage background tasks independently; they are driven by the main agent.
